TurboBeads are metallic nanoparticles, which are coated with an extremly thin (~2 nm) layer of graphitic carbon. Our patented technology allows the covalent chemical functionalization of this carbon, resulting in chemically functionalized magnetic beads.

Based on the nature of our magnetic beads (graphite covered metals) they offer specific advantages, if compared to standard microsized magnetic beads.

The advantages are:

  • extremely small size
    40 nm vs. > 1 micron

  • easy separation
    > 3x higher magnetic properties
    using metals instead of ferrites
    fast separation even for large volumes

  • No loss of ligands
    Fully covalent C-C linkage

  • Extend operating conditions
    stable at wide range of pH
    stable above 190°C
    stable in most solvents

Particle size and distribution

The average particle size of our beads is ~30 nm. The particle size distribution is lognormal with a geometric standard deviation of ~1.4.

 

Magnetic properties

Based on the metallic nature of our magnetic beads, a very high magnetic saturation is achieved. This results in a fast and efficient recovery of the beads in the presence of a magnetic field.
